As previous year, during the project Voids2021, several spaces in the center of Split become open studios for eight local and regional artists. Invited resident artists will take turns throughout the three week period and during their stay will open the doors of temporary studios to the local community.
Given the existing measures to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we will not organize larger gatherings. However, the open studio format allows visitors to come in smaller numbers (2-3 people at a time with mandatory wearing of masks) throughout the day, during the specific opening hours: from 10 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm.

Through visits to studios and through conversations with artists and other forms of interaction that they will suggest during their stay, the audience will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the work and contemporary art production of the region. This year, interviews with artists are to be held in one of the spaces with a limited audience (given the current measures) and will also be available in online format (live streaming, video recordings on the CHC website and youtube channel) which will enable the inclusion and availability of content to a wider audience. We will also be exhibiting and promoting the works of selected artists in different ways – through the selection of video works and their display during the program, but also throughout the rest of the year.

The very principle of open studios is to bring closer the work of artists and their intellectual processes which the audience does not often have the opportunity to discover. Therefore, it is not a standard exhibition format, but a discovery of artistic practices through direct interaction with the artist in a temporary studio.
Through an open call aimed at artists from Croatia and the region, and through the selection by curators and the CHC team, we selected artists who approach contemporary phenomena in different ways and through different media. The goal is to connect local artists with other artists from Croatia and the region, but also to gain valuable impressions of artists outside of Split who will give the local context a new vision and a potentially different approach.
